If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your window treatments, now is the time. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit – a valuable tax incentive that helps homeowners save on qualifying energy-efficient upgrades – was originally planned to run through 2032.
However, recent legislative changes have shortened the timeline, and the credit is now set to end after the 2025 tax year.
That means homeowners must have their energy-efficient improvements installed and placed in service by December 31, 2025 to qualify for the credit. Simply ordering or placing a deposit before that date won’t count – the work must be completed and ready for use.
What the Credit Offers
This federal incentive (often called Section 25C) allows homeowners to claim 30% of the cost of qualified energy-efficient improvements – such as insulation, windows, doors, and certain window treatments – up to $1,200 per year.
For many, it’s been a great way to make their homes more comfortable while reducing energy costs and offsetting part of their investment at tax time.
Which Products are Eligible
Dual-cell honeycomb (cellular) shades – specifically the Hunter Douglas Duette® – qualify for the federal tax credit. Their innovative cell-within-a-cell design provides exceptional insulation, helping to keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Eligibility can vary depending on how and where the shades are installed, but in most cases where we handle the installation, these energy-efficient shades meet the requirements for the credit.
What This Means for You
If you’ve been considering new, energy-efficient shades or blinds, completing your project in 2025 could mean big savings. By acting before the deadline, you can:
- Qualify for a 30% federal tax credit, up to $1200 (subject to IRS limits)
- Improve your home’s comfort and reduce heating and cooling costs
- Increase your home’s energy efficiency and long-term value
Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
After December 31, 2025, the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit will no longer be available under current law – and there’s no guarantee it will be reinstated.
If you want to take advantage of this program, now is the time to plan your updates and get on our installation schedule before the end of next year.
